As a regular cook, planning days ahead on what you’ll be cooking can be a daunting task – especially if you are on your way to chef-hood and wish to try a few new recipes here and there. Traditional cookbooks have thousands of recipes for you to try, but unless you have the ingredients immediately at your disposal those recipes are completely useless. AngelCook is a cookbook personalized for your pantry. With AngelCook you simply enter the ingredients at your disposal and our user friendly menu will pull up a list of recipes specialized just for you! Using Pearson’s Kitchen Manager API, AngelCook will recommend dishes for you to cook with the ingredients you currently have. AngelCook also inspired its sister site, DevilCook - a cookbook for all your guilty pleasures.
Always keep the user in mind when creating an app. It’s important to have many features, but don’t overwhelm the user. In AngelCook, we sought to design a minimalistic user interface. AngelHack was only our second hackathon, so don’t be intimidated and have confidence! Don’t be afraid to ask other hackers for help. Talk to everyone. You’ll meet many people who are all willing to give you both help and feedback.

We are both designers and developers studying computer science at UC Berkeley. Typically, designers are not developers and vice-versa. However, by being a part of both Hackers@Berkeley and Innovative Design , we now strive to combine both creativity and technology to break tradition. Other than hacking and design, Quinn enjoys baking and Elizabeth plays the sax.
