Professors use announcements to communicate important news or reminders to their students; many courses and institutions rely on the Announcements feature to ensure students are successful. Here's a few important things to know about how announcements work and are used in LearningStudio:
- Only professors (and many teaching assistants) can create, update or delete announcements.
- Announcements can be scheduled - meaning they can be visible only between certain dates (and created well before that start date).
- LearningStudio tracks whether each user reads each announcement. This information is reported through our Enterprise Reporting product and many institutions use this information as part of their student success or requirements tracking. Therefore, you should be sure to mark announcements as read when using the APIs.
The Announcements APIs and Events to work with the announcements features of LearningStudio to extend the reach of announcements beyond the course, such as a portal or a notifications system. Using the APIs, you can retrieve a user's announcements from the selected course, and mark each announcement as read or unread by the user. If using the APIs as a professor in OAuth 2, you can also create, update, and delete announcements via the APIs.
Note: This API is limited to announcements made in a LearningStudio course. Announcements at the campus level, visible through the Personal Student Home (PSH or Dashboard), are not accessible via an API.
