Once again, Plug & Play had the pleasure to attend Launch48 Weekend in October this year.   The event kicked off on Friday evening (October 18) at City University with a brief welcome presentation by organiser Simon McCann, followed by 60-second-pitches from attendees. 8 ideas were chosen as projects for the weekend (1 team broke up early on Saturday, so there were only 7 pitches in the end).   photo (47)   Although this time the event was a lot quieter than usual, it wasn't short of great ideas. From offering a marketplace for personal training services to a customised online shopping platform - the vision of entrepreneurs was limitless.   The pitches   Hotbloq This app that allows  you to explore a city by integrating scraped data from Google reviews and making it digestible. The team used the Foursquare API, which allows users to see hot spots in a city or at a location. These hot spots are marked green. The team validated their idea by speaking to 40-50 people in bars to find out where people go and what types of features they would want in an app that visualises data in the way Hotbloq does.   Bet48 This is a social mobile betting platform which takes away the complexity of placing (sports) bets. Rather than using money to place bets, people can use 'free to play coins'. The aim is to make betting simple, friendlier (no serious bets involved) and more social.   Fitness Bids Fitness Bids is an online market place for getting personal training services. It's a bidding platform that allows consumers to find personal trainers within their area and at competitive prices. Personal trainers can get their leads more easily and can therefore increase their clientele and income.   Colour You Purple This is an online store that allows consumers to buy objects by colour or by texture (e.g. wood). The target market here is 25-35 year-old hipsters.   Missd Missd is a mobile dating platform which first started out as an app for missed encounters. As the weekend went on, the team changed direction slightly and made it an app that comes into play before a potential missed encounter. Profiles are only visible to the person the woman has contacted on the app. The team felt that this feature makes the app better than online dating as Missd is proximity-based. The person who receives the message has a limited time to respond or they lose the opportunity. The team integrated with the Facebook and Google Maps APIs.   Nextfunder Nextfunder is a platform that helps startups raise funds from investors and helps create a liquid market which helps sell shares.   Take In This is an ingredients deliver service which caters to young professionals who are too busy to cook. The service lies between takeaway and online grocery services. Consumers can choose a meal they like from the website and will get the ingredients prepared and delivered to their door. All meals are quick meals and take no longer than 30 minutes to cook.   About Launch48 Launch48 help entrepreneurs who have great ideas but don’t know how to get started.
