Determining an optimal integration path within LearningStudio can sometimes be challenging as it requires leveraging a variety of APIs in combination with an LTI launch which can serve as the starting point for who the user is, what course they are coming from and what shared partner campus they are originating from.

In order to help streamline the process, we've outlined the the recommended integration paths for the most common domains within LearningStudio. You can browse through the current listing of common uses by selecting the appropriate use case from the "Common Integration Use Cases" dropdown list located in the top right corner of this page.

Since the most integration type is an integrated course tool launched from within a LearningStudio course the focus of these use cases is based on that scenario. Please note that the APIs are integration agnostic and aren't by any means tied solely to only course tools integrations. As a starting point you can reference existing applications developed on top of our APIs here.

As a starting it should be noted that use cases assumes the following:

  1. LTI is being as the launch mechanism for the external course utility. The same integration flows can be leveraged for the proprietary outbound single sign on method with the only difference method and structure of the launch as the same data points can be passed with each.
  2. In some of the use cases, the preferred method may be through the use of the External Content Item. Tools launched from this course feature will appear the same as if the user had manually authored the link and added it to their course. The one key difference is that for the tools launched from the External Course Tool content within LearningStudio have the ability to pass the associated content item ID they are launched from which provides the necessary context to easily find the association of gradebook item, dropbox item, etc.
