Pearson LearningStudio will announce in the Pearson Developers Network if it intends to discontinue APIs or make backwards-incompatible changes to the LearningStudio suite of APIs and Events. If you use any of the listed functionality, you must change your application to use the replacement functionality, if any, as soon as possible to prevent interruption of services.

Pearson LearningStudio will use commercially reasonable efforts to continue to operate those unchanged services for no more than six months after the announcement unless:

  • Required by law or third party relationship (including if there is a change in applicable law or relationship), or
  • Doing so could create a security risk or substantial economic or material technical burden (as Pearson LearningStudio determines in its reasonable good faith judgment).

Throughout the PDN, deprecation and change notifications are posted in the announcements and/or Release Notes sections of the relevant product information. Additional information will also be provided in the relevant API documentation, including the current state of deprecation for any to-be-deprecated APIs.

There are two stages of deprecation are the following:

  • TO BE DEPRECATED - The route, process, or functionality is scheduled to be deprecated. The deprecation date will be shown, if available. This stage is intended to notify you so that you can change your application appropriately.
  • DEPRECATED - The route, process, or functionality has been deprecated.

When an API is to be deprecated, there will be a 3 month period of notification during which the API is marked as "TO BE DEPRECATED." After that period elapses, the API will be marked as "DEPRECATED" but continue to be operational and supported for 3 months. Important: After six months, it is no longer supported and/or may be removed at any time without notice. You are responsible for ensuring that your application uses currently available services.

When there is an important change to an API contract that cannot be made in a backwards compatible fashion, there will be a 3 month period of notification. After that period elapses, the change may be implemented at any time. Note that some changes, per the justifications listed above, may require different and/or more urgent timelines.
