Twixionary is a web application that translates a common vocabulary activity into a social, digital format to enhance its effectiveness as a teaching and learning technique.
In the K-12 market, students are often asked to keep a paper vocabulary notebook. Organizing, sharing, and collecting data continues to be a challenge for teachers and students.
This platform allows students to keep a personalized dictionary of words they discover in their reading, TV viewing, and daily lives. Students enter the word, the context in which they discovered it and then, using the Longman dictionary, they search and select definitions for their words. Twixionary’s social component allows students to share definitions and see other entries.
The application is built modularly, using Ruby on Rails.
